Vectors are common insects that live all around us like mosquitoes, houseflies etc. They carry and transmit serious diseases. Vector does not cause disease itself but spreads infection by transmitting pathogen(disease causing germs). The diseases that spread due to infections transmitted by insects are called vector borne diseases . For e.g. Female anopheles mosquito carries the protozoan called plasmodium within their body and is transmitted to the healthy person’s blood stream when they bite the person to suck blood. So female anopheles is a vector for malaria.
